You can learn from a book, a lecture or a demonstration. But Waldorf’s communications faculty know you won’t really start to learn until you get your hands on a project and CREATE.

Journalism

Journalism at Waldorf focuses on the theory and practice of gathering and delivering news, preparing students to be professional print journalists, news editors and news managers. The emphasis includes instruction in news writing and editing; reporting; photojournalism; layout and graphic design; media law; and professional ethics. Students have a chance to practice what they learn with our student-managed online newspaper (lobbyist.waldorf.edu). Students have a chance to interview, gather information and write stories, review music, movies, books and more, take photographs, and get involved in managing content of the website.

Each week, students in the journalism emphasis meet to come up with story ideas, take assignments and work with student editors on polishing their work. Students majoring in other academic areas than communications are also involved in producing the online newspaper (The Lobbyist).
