The Experience

You can learn from a book. You can learn from a lecture. You can even learn from a demonstration. But Waldorf’s communications faculty know you won’t really start to learn until you get your hands on a project and create. Whether you favor written or electronic communication, you will have semester after semester of opportunities to write, record, edit and design. Your passion to produce will lead the way.

We know you are passionate about learning and capable of achieving. We also know that learning and achieving come together in powerful and unique ways when you are provided a chance to put it all together. That’s why each of our campus media organizations is student managed.

Our campus media—KZOW 91.9 FM, WAL-TV, The Lobbyist and The Torch—serve as your pre-professional proving ground.

You and your student colleagues meet weekly to plan each radio show, TV broadcast, newspaper article or magazine spread slated for production. Our campus media organizations are open programs. This means that all students, regardless of major, are encouraged to participate. If a chance to lead seems appealing, you may interview for a media management position so you can exercise personal skills that will serve you well in a career.

What makes our program unique?

• We teach what we know: Each faculty member chose to teach after enjoying a career as a professional communicator, and each remains active in his or her field.

• Our goal is to develop the kind of employees we liked to hire.

• We teach today’s technology: You are immersed in current technology to develop current skills.

• We teach engagement: You are required to complete two internships—one that helps you determine if you are headed in the right direction and one that helps you land your first job.

• We believe in you.
